After Care Info

Post Chemical Peel

If you just received a "skin peel" treatment, you should not necessarily expect to "peel". However, you might have a light flaking in a few localized areas for a couple of days. Most clients who undergo these treatments have only residual redness for anywhere from one to twelve hours.

It is recommended that you do not apply other products or make-up the day of treatment. It is ideal to allow the skin to stabilize and rest overnight. However, make-up can be applied if necessary. Tonight, your sking will feel tight and pulled. If the skin feels very dry, apply a product recommended for this as frequently as needed. Although you might not actually peel, it is likely that you will experience a light exfoliation. It imight take two or more treatments for the surface of the skin to loosen and peel. Everyone responds differently and most clients look quite normal the day after their treatment. Do not apply other medications or AHA products to your skin (unless recommended at the time of the treatment) as they might be irritating.

Do not pick or pull on any loosening or exfoliating skin. This could potentially cause hyperpigmentation.

Absolutely avoid sun and tanning booths for at least three weeks.

Discontinue use of Retin-A/Retinova seven days post-treatment.

Discontinue use of Tazorac/Avage 10-14 days post-treatment (check with your dispensing physician about discontinuing prescription medications).

Do not have electrolysis, Restylane, Botox injections, IPL/Laser/RF treatments or facial waxing or use depilatories for approximately five days.

For the next two day period:

Do not apply ice or ice water to the treated areas;

Do not put your face directly into a hot shower spray. Do not use hot tubs, steam rooms or saunas;

Do not go swimming;

Do not participate in activities that would cause excessive perspiration;

Do not use loofas or other means of mechanical exfolliation;

Do not direct a hair dryer onto the treated area;

Stay cool! Getting heated internally can cause hyperpigmentation.

Skin Treatment Questions

What is it?

A combination of radio frequency with pulsed light or laser. The combination of the tw is called "elos" (electrical and optical synergy). Synergy is a combination of two methods to produce an optimum effect.

1. Much less laser time is used, so there are fewer potential side effects. Practitioners are able to use more treatments and less energy per treatment to minimize side effects.

2. Hair removal does not depend on the color of hair. It will remove light and dark hair.

3. Treatment goes deep below the superficial skin and results in less redness on the face after treatment.

4. The skin treatment package includes a personalized skin regimen for home use. This helps optimize the results of treatments.

What is it good for?

1. Hair removal.

2. Skin rejuvenation, to reduce pore size, lighten age spots, lighten brown spots (from sun damage or those caused by use of certain prescription medications), to reduce redness in the face (rosacea, spider veins), to reduce the effects of acne, to treat superficial wrinkles and help lessen the appearance of deeper wrinkles.

3. Scar appearance in certain cases may be reduced. Please consult with your provider regarding the likelihood of successful scar treatment.

What are the side effects?

There is no cutting or bruising involved with these treatments, unlike more invasive treatments available through cosmetic surgery. There may be localized redness and/or slight swelling. Clients are typically able to apply makeup and go on with their days.

How soon will I see results?

There is no clear answer to this question. Sometimes it depends on the area being treated. Since each person responds individually to treatment, results may be more dramatic earlier for some, later for others. Any concerns regarding the number of treatments you will require should be discussed with your provider prior to beginning a series of treatments. You should also be aware that certain areas, such as darkness under eyes and acne, may actually appear darker before it begins to lighten. This is anticipated and temporary, and does not mean that the treatments are ineffective.

Post Microdermabrasion

1. SPF: It is recommended that every person wears an SPF on a daily basis to protect from the aging and damaging rays of the sun. Nonetheless, after you have undergone a microdermabrasion, this is even more important since your skin is vulnerable and new. You must wear an SPF that blocks from the UVA and UVB rays of the sun on a daily basis to prevent damage underneath the surface of the skin that has been treated.

2. Avoid Extreme Heat: For 24 hours after the microdermabrasion, it is important for you to avoid extreme heat, which could irritate and inflame the skin. This includes sweating, exercise, a hot tub, a sauna, or even a very hot shower. You should shower and cleanse their skin in lukewarm temperatures.

3. Avoid Waxing: This should go without saying, but you should never wax where you have been treated directly after a microdermabrasion since your skin is vulnerable and delicate.

4. Avoid Tanning: Again, we recommend that you avoid tanning since it can damage your skin, but at least make sure that you do not go directly to a tanning bed after a microdermabrasion treatment. You should wait a minimum of 24 hours before tanning or any type of sun exposure.

5. Moisturize Well! It is important to know that you may experience peeling and flaking as dead layers of skin are being shed after the treatment. It is best for you to use a moisturizer appropriate to your skin type as often as is needed to hydrate and restore the skin to balance.

6. Avoid Harsh Products: If you are using harsh skin care products to remove wrinkles or treat acne, including those that contain benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, or glycolic acid, please do not use these aggressive skin care products for up to 24 hours after treatment.
